Custodial Training

Exciting Opportunity: 2024-2025 SMCDSB Custodial Training Program

Who: Open to students in grades 11 and 12, high school graduates, and adults aiming to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

When: Courses will run from September 2024 to June 2025, subject to student enrollment. Dates and times will be finalized as the program schedule develops.

Where: Offered through a blend of virtual and face-to-face delivery, tailored to the unit being taught. The majority of the program will be conducted virtually, with hands-on workplace experience and training.

The Custodial Services Training Program has two parts:
1. Virtual/Face-to-face with a digital literacy component to enhance 21st-century learning skills.  Students can earn 2 credits for this component

2. Job Placement: Cooperative Education placement for 3 credits – times of work will vary depending on the placement and student.

  • On-the-job experience in the cooperative education placement (330 hours);

  • Build your resume with certifications in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Power Hand Tool Safety, Worker Safety Awareness, Infection Prevention and Control, Safe Food handling, Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention;
  • Network with employers and community agencies; and
  • Learn about safety protocols, cleaning procedures, equipment training, use of tools and become trained by knowledgeable professionals in the industry.
  • Successful Students will be given an EXIT INTERVIEW with SMCDSB Human Resources and Custodial Services! This could lead to PART-TIME or FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT!
